My Girls

Since Layla and Kayleigh are almost 5 years apart I never thought they would have matching outfits. However, the other day I was pulling out the next size clothes for Layla and I found this dress. I remembered that Kayleigh had the same exact dress hanging in her closet. I asked Kayleigh if she wanted to be twins with Layla on Sunday and she got so excited. The funny thing is the dress that Layla is wearing was Kayleigh's when she was little. My Aunt Barbara gave it to her. I remember being so sad because Kayleigh never wore it because I could never get it to fit over her head! Isn't it funny the little things you remember?

He looks like.....

Today I dressed Zeb for Church and then I looked at him and thought "He looks like his Grandy ( John's dad)!" John's dad often wears this type of outfit to church. So not only does he share the same name as his grandfather he has taken up dressing like him too!

National Day

Tomorrow is National Day in East Asia. The whole country will be taking about 8 days off to celebrate this holiday. Kayleigh's school decided to celebrate too with a performance today. John dropped her off this morning and came back home to tell me to go to her school at 10am for the performance. I should have seen it coming since she has been dancing around the house and singing in Chinese for the past couple of weeks. Kayleigh did not warn me of this performance and neither did her teachers. Notice Kayleigh's attire. All the other little girls are wearing nice white dresses and Kayleigh is in her every day clothes. They gave me no warning to dress her up. However, the teachers did compromise by putting make up on her. We were so proud of her. Last year during this performance she just basically stood there. This year was very different. She knew all the moves to the dance and even knew some of the words to the song. She did a great job!

Notice above that Kayleigh is singing on the microphone. I was surprised and proud at the same time!

Merry Christmas!

We had a wonderful Christmas! It was really fun watching the kids open their new presents. Zeb received several trains which he loved! Kayleigh received a pink dress for her doll which she also loves. She claims that the baby doll will be a part of my sister's wedding in the spring. We will see if Holly goes for that! We had everyone over for brunch and then opening gifts. We did secret Santa. John and I both agreed that this was one of the best Christmas seasons we have had since we have been here. I think having so many kids around made it a lot of fun for us. Plus our Hong Kong trip was icing on the cake!

Kayleigh received a princess themed gift from her friend Brennan which included the Cinderella movie. She was really excited!

Zeb received this awesome truck to ride around on outside from his friends Bright and Zion.

Kayleigh's performance

China just recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of Communism. All the schools including Kayleigh's was closed for the first eight days of October. Lots of people also were off work and left the city to travel which made the city much more quiet and there was less traffic for us! The day before Kayleigh's school closed each class put on a performance to celebrate this memorable anniversary. The day before the performance Kayleigh's teacher informed me that I should come to her school the next day around 9:30 to watch everyone perform. I had no idea what to expect. I had no idea how to dress her for the next day either so I just sent her in her normal clothes. When I arrived I of course picked her out of the crowd right away. Her red hair tends to stand out. They had dressed all of her class up with blue and white and her teachers had fixed her hair with a big yellow sunflower wrapped around her pig tails. Each class was dressed differently and did a performance. It was very interesting to watch and it was fun to see Kayleigh be a part of her first performance at school. I am looking forward to more interesting days like this to come!

Above are all the kids in her school dressed and ready to perform!

I'm still not quite sure what the red dot was for??!!

Kayleigh didn't sing much since she has only attended school there for about a month but did her best to do the motions to the song.

Dress in the rain

During the rainy season we have a lot of time indoors, so Kayleigh decided the other day that she wanted to dress up in her princess dress that was given to her by her Gran-D and Gran-Me. The pictures below show her getting tired of wearing the dress. I was lucky to get a few shots in before it came completely off.

Murder Mystery

John and I went to a Murder Mystery Party last night. It was a 1920's gangster theme. We had a great time. John was one of the people murdered so we had to figure out who the killer was! The good news is if you get killed you get to come back as another player. We had a blast. It was really fun to dress up and play the game.

This is the morning after. We spent the night with our friends that hosted the party and Kayleigh was wearing someone's boa around. She really liked it!
